Natural Language Processing is the field of science that produces solutions to maximize human-computer interaction, or to strengthen communication between people using different natural languages. Natural Language Processing is one of the most challenging areas of artificial intelligence and there is intense research on it today. Since Natural Language processing contains many sub-problems, including understanding the functioning of the human brain, it is shown as a "complete artificial-intelligence problem". Today, deep learning, machine learning, statistical analysis and rule-based approaches are used in hybrid form for the solutions of natural language processing problems. The problems studied can vary widely. From correcting typos to automatic translation systems, from language learning applications to personal assistant applications, natural language processing comes into play in every field that natural language touches.
Note: Since the concept of "language" in the field of computers is generally used for programming languages (e.g., C, Java, etc.), the language that people use to communicate among themselves in this field of science is called "natural language". Among the natural languages, spoken languages such as English and Turkish can be counted, as well as sign languages used by deaf individuals, which are different in each country.
ITU Natural Language Processing Group, which started to work in this field in Turkiye in 2000, forms the basis of the studies on the processing of the Turkish language. Group Coordinator Prof. Dr. Gülşen Eryiğit's works rank first in the Google Scholar list in this field in Turkiye.
Turkish Natural Language Processing Web Services offered to national and international researchers and serves more than 200 researchers as of 2020.
