Accepting its first students in the 2020-2021 academic year, ITU Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering is the first department in Turkey that combines artificial intelligence and data science.

Why Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering?

Data and artificial intelligence are structuring the future of economy, industry and science. The Artificial Intelligence revolution is causing fundamental changes in technology, economy and society fields. On the other hand, data is the main factor that connects many sectors (e.g., from health to finance and from automotive to entertainment) and ensures the efficient growth of these sectors. Data acts as a building block not only in the evolution of new economies, but also in the development of Artificial Intelligence.

Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering Department was established under the Computer and Informatics Faculty of our university to train scientists and business people who will in Turkey lead this revolution that is expected to shape the future.
 

What disciplines fuel Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering?

The scientific field of Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering is especially based on Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics fundamental engineering and science fields. For example, interdisciplinary application areas of artificial intelligence cover a wide spectrum including Health and Medicine, Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, Computational Chemistry and Physics, Business, Industry, Energy, Electric-Electronics, Control and Automation, Machinery, Manufacturing, Aircraft-Space, Atmosphere and Earth Sciences.
 
 

Working Areas

Our department members work under Computer and Informatics Faculty and have been taking part in education and research studies related with artificial intelligence in computer networks, computer vision, earthquake prediction, nature-inspired computing, natural language processing, machine learning, parallel and distributed information processing, data mining, artificial intelligence and robotics, agricultural monitoring and information systems, bioinformatics and software modeling & analysis.
